Chester is a city of red sandstone, old gateways, creaking history, and the faint temptation of coffee drifting out from side streets. As you walk, you’ll pass places that still feel gloriously lived-in... from Phoenix Tower to the Roman Amphitheatre, from the black-and-white charm of the Rows to the calm grandeur of Chester Cathedral.
As you approach each landmark, I’ll start telling you about it automatically, but if the audio does not begin, just tap play yourself. If you feel lost at any point, open the map in the app and it will steer you back on course. At every stop, you can ask me questions in the chat section below.
For most of the tour, comfortable walking clothes are fine. But if you plan to go inside religious places like the cathedral or Saint John the Baptist’s Church, dress respectfully. Mind the uneven cobbles, narrow pavements, steps, cyclists, and traffic near crossings and gates.
If you have not already, head to the first stop, Phoenix Tower, and let’s begin.
