Originally founded in the early 1920s, Oakland Park was established as a homestead and was initially known as “Vincent”, named after the area’s first landowner, Alfred G. Vincent. In 1925, the name changed to Oakland Park to reflect the abundant oak trees scattered throughout the region, and to better represent the growing community.
