Oxford has a way of arriving gently. There’s the scrape of shoes on worn pavement, the hush of college walls, the smell of coffee drifting out across old lanes, and towers that seem to have been practicing dignity for centuries. We’ll begin at Oxford Castle, wander past places like Saint Ebbe’s Church and Christ Church, slip through the Covered Market with its tempting smells, and later find our way to the Bridge of Sighs and the Botanic Garden... not a bad lineup, frankly.
As you approach each landmark, I’ll start speaking automatically, but if the audio does not begin, just tap play yourself. If you feel turned around at any point, open the map in the app. At every stop, you can ask me questions in the chat below. You do not need to dress up for this walk, but if you enter a church or another sensitive space, respectful clothing is wise. And while you’re walking, mind the traffic, cyclists, uneven paving, and your belongings in busier spots.
If you haven’t already, make your way to the first stop, Oxford Castle... and let’s begin.
