Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania, was founded in 1804 as a British penal colony. This significant milestone marked the beginning of a settlement that would grow to become Australia’s second-oldest capital city, following Sydney. Originally named Hobart Town, it was established at Sullivans Cove by Lieutenant Governor David Collins, after the British Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, Lord Hobart.
Before its establishment, European interest in the region surged due to fears of French exploration. The first military camp was set up briefly at Risdon Cove in 1803, but the site proved unsuitable. Thus, Collins moved the settlement to the more favorable location, where Hobart remains today.

This tour was such a great way to see the city. The stories were interesting without feeling too scripted, and I loved being able to explore at my own pace.
This was a solid way to get to know Brighton without feeling like a tourist. The narration had depth and context, but didn't overdo it.
Started this tour with a croissant in one hand and zero expectations. The app just vibes with you, no pressure, just you, your headphones, and some cool stories.
