Bundaberg, nestled in Queensland, Australia, has a rich history that dates back to the traditional landowners—the Taribelang, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, and Bailai peoples. These Aboriginal groups are the original inhabitants of the region, with a deep connection to the land that continues to be celebrated today.

The city, ideally situated about 385 kilometers north of Brisbane, was officially surveyed in 1868 by John Charlton Thompson, who designed its layout with uniform square blocks and broad streets. The name "Bundaberg," as derived from the Aboriginal term "Bunda," was integrated with the Saxon suffix "berg," meaning hill or mountain—a reference to the local geography, particularly the Sloping Hummock that rises above the surrounding flatland.
