Lima
Founded on January 18, 1535, by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, Lima was established as a strategic location that served as the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru. Pizarro envisioned it as a center of commerce and culture, and he named it “La Ciudad de los Reyes,” or “The City of Kings.” The selection of Lima’s location close to the Pacific Ocean facilitated trade and attracted settlers from various regions.
