Athens
Athens, the capital of Greece and one of the world's oldest cities, has a history that spans over 3,400 years. Its founding is steeped in mythology and legend. According to ancient tales, the city was named after the goddess Athena, who won the patronage of the city after a contest with Poseidon, the god of the sea. This divine contest resulted in Athena gifting the citizens the olive tree, symbolizing peace and prosperity, while Poseidon provided a spring of saltwater.
