On this walk, we’ll follow the people who kept the place moving: river men hauling goods up from King’s Lynn, servants, porters, printers, publicans, and all the others the scholars rather depended on... even if they did not always say thank you. Academia rarely rushes to credit the plumbing.
As you walk, the audio should begin on its own when you reach each stop. If it doesn’t, just tap play. If Cambridge’s lanes pull a neat little trick and you lose your bearings, the map is in the app, and you can ask me questions in the chat at any stop. Mind the cyclists, the narrow pavements, and the occasional uneven cobble.
Now, head to Magdalene Bridge, Cambridge... pronounced Maudlin, because of course it is.
