Macau, a vibrant city located on the southern coast of China, is steeped in history. Its origins trace back to the early 16th century when Portuguese sailors first arrived. The name 'Macau' is believed to have derived from the Chinese phrase "A-Má-Gau," which translates to "Bay of A-Má," named after a local temple dedicated to the goddess A-Má.

In 1557, the Portuguese established a trading post in Macau, making it the first European settlement in Asia. This laid the foundation for a cultural blend that would define Macau for centuries to come.
