== History ==
Toyama Prefectural Hall opened on August 2, 1964 (Showa 39) under the name of "Hall of Industry and Culture". The total construction cost was 1.023 billion yen (of which Toyama City was responsible for 150 million yen), and it consisted of a main building with one basement floor and eight floors above ground , a large hall with 1,600 seats, and a total floor area of 10,313.6 m2. It is said that it was the first attempt in Japan at the time to set up exhibition rooms with a total area of 3,194.4 square meters on the basement, first and second floors, and is equipped with facilities such as art galleries, museums, liberal arts rooms, tea rooms, Japanese-style rooms with stages, and cooking rooms.
At the beginning of the opening, the usage situation was low, but the number of users gradually increased over the years due to the fact that it faces the main street made up of Toyama City's urban planning and is close to Toyama Station. In the large exhibition room, public exhibitions and corporate exhibitions were held, and the prefectural exhibition, which had been held at the Toyama City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Encouragement Hall, etc., was held for the first time at the Prefectural Hall on June 12, 1965 (Showa 40). In addition, various events such as music and theater were held in the large hall, and various classes such as cooking, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, handicrafts, English conversation, and music sponsored by the Prefectural Hall were always so successful that they were always full. For this reason, in the "History of Toyama Prefecture", "Because of the construction of this building, the people of the prefecture have more opportunities to come into contact with cultural events", and in "History of Toyama City", "The prefectural hall played a large role in improving the culture of the prefecture".
1985/(60)6/1Toyama Prefectural Hall completed large-scale renovation work and opened as a commemorative event for the 40th prefectural exhibition. This renovation was carried out with a total project cost of 1.54 billion yen in the wake of the fact that the prefectural civic hall no longer met the standards of the Fire Service Act, and with the aim of responding to the internationalization and information society, a special conference room with simultaneous interpretation facilities capable of international conferences and a video projector with a large screen were installed, and a hall and practice room were also added.
From March 2014, 3, it was temporarily closed due to earthquake-resistant renovation work. In addition to responding to the lack of seismic strength and aging equipment, this renovation work was carried out because there were complaints from users that it was narrow and inconvenient to use, and it was completed on March 13, 2015 (Heisei 27) and a commemorative ceremony was held. In this renovation, a new escalator was installed, the exterior wall was changed from tiles to panels that are easy to maintain, and the seating in the hall was updated to be spacious. Also, on March 14 of the same year, D&DEPARTMENT TOYAMA opened. This store is the 10th store in Japan of D&DEPARTMENT, a select store operated by Kenmei Nagaoka, and in addition to serving dishes using ingredients from Toyama Prefecture, it also sells traditional crafts and daily necessities.
