Hey there. I am Adam, and welcome to the Rethymno Audio Tour, Cultural Gems. Think of me as your personal guide... just with a slightly better sense of direction. As we walk these narrow, winding alleys together, take a moment to really soak it in. You can almost feel the history radiating from the rough Venetian stone arches. The rich scent of strong roasted coffee mingling with the sea salt from the harbor... it really is something else.
We have eight stops on our journey today. We will start near the Melina Merkouri Indoor Hall, weave our way past the striking architecture of the Neradje Mosque, and eventually find ourselves staring up at the massive, imposing walls of the Fortezza.
As you approach each landmark, I will automatically start talking. If technology decides to take a break, just tap play yourself. Lose your bearings? The map on your app will point you right back to me. And if you get curious about a building or a story, feel free to ask me anything in the chat section below.
A quick heads up. We will be visiting a few religious sites, including old mosques, so please ensure your shoulders and knees are covered to show respect. Also, keep an eye on the ground. Those historic cobblestones look incredibly charming, but they have been tripping up distracted visitors for centuries.
If you have not already, make your way over to our first stop to get this show on the road.
