Dar es Salaam, which translates to "Abode of Peace" in Arabic, is the largest city and financial hub of Tanzania. Located on the Swahili coast, it is not only the largest urban settlement in East Africa but also plays a crucial role as an economic center. With a population exceeding ten million, it ranks as the sixth-largest city in Africa, continuously growing at a rapid pace.

The history of Dar es Salaam started in the mid-19th century when it was known as Mzizima, a small fishing village. In 1865 or 1866, Sultan Majid bin Said of Zanzibar began constructing the new city close to Mzizima, naming it Dar es Salaam. This city quickly grew in significance as it became the administrative and commercial center of German East Africa.
