Cochabamba sits in a broad valley at 2,558 meters, just low enough to escape the biting cold of La Paz and high enough for a climate the locals call eternal spring. The city earned its reputation as the food capital of Bolivia honestly: the covered Mercado 25 de Mayo and the vast La Cancha market, one of the largest open-air markets in South America, overflow daily with chicha vendors, salteña stalls, and mountains of fresh produce from the surrounding Cochabamba valley. Bolivians from other cities come here specifically to eat.

4 meters, slightly taller than the Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. A cable car runs to the base of the statue on weekends. The city center retains its colonial grid, with the main plaza anchored by the Catedral de Cochabamba, which took 160 years to complete. The Palacio de la Prefectura opposite the plaza is a fine example of neoclassical architecture from the early republic era.
