Hello and welcome to the Utica Audio Tour: Echoes of Heritage in Downtown’s Historic Heart! My name’s Andy, your enthusiastic digital tour guide-think of me as your friendly voice in your pocket, minus the pocket lint.
Downtown Utica is about to show you its big personality-beautiful red brick and stone buildings, scents drifting from nearby bakeries, church bells soft in the distance, and the hum of people living everyday moments in extraordinary places. We’ve got ten amazing stops lined up, from the once-buzzing Doyle Hardware Building (wait till you hear what kind of “nuts and bolts” went on there!) to the grand halls of the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute. And yes, there will be a stop for the beer-lovers at the Matt Brewing Company-history doesn’t have to be dry, right?
As you walk, I’ll chime in automatically every time you get close to a landmark. If for some reason I get a little shy and don’t start talking, feel free to tap that play button. You’ll never have to worry about getting lost-I’m not great with directions, but the map in the app sure is! If you wander off, just check it to find your way back.
See a question popping into your mind about that old Gothic church? Or curious about wild stories from Hotel Utica? Use the chat below to ask away! I’m always ready for your historical musings or even your corny jokes-challenge accepted.
A quick note: If you visit religious places like Grace Church or St. Joseph’s Church, it’s respectful to dress a bit modestly. Maybe leave those wild shorts for after the tour (Utica will thank you). And just your usual safety reminders: watch out for traffic, stay on the sidewalks, hydrate if it's warm, and maybe don’t walk and text-I don’t want to be responsible for any run-ins with lampposts.
So, if you haven’t already, make your way to our first stop-the mighty Doyle Hardware Building awaits. Get ready, because this tour is full of surprises, stories, and maybe even a few laughs along the way. Let’s discover Downtown Utica together!
