Today, you’ll be strolling through streets humming with stories of justice, struggle, and change. We’ve got three fascinating stops-each packed to the brim with tales that are dramatic, inspiring, and sometimes a little weird. From sacred ground to grand courthouses, it’s all just waiting for a bit of your curiosity.
As you wander, you might hear distant honking, the rumble of subway trains below, maybe the sizzle of a street vendor’s grill-or is that just my stomach making lunch plans? The Civic Center is full of surprises, and I’m here to make sure they’re fun ones.
Here’s how today’s adventure works: As you approach each landmark, I’ll pop up with the story and a few laughs (or at least a valiant attempt). If I’m being too shy and don’t start talking, just tap play in your app. If you’re unsure which way to go, check that handy map. Don’t want to get lost and end up in a hot dog eating contest you didn’t sign up for!
Standing at each stop, you can ask me whatever’s on your mind in the chat-about weird facts, other things to see, or if you’re just desperate for a terrible joke.
Just a heads-up: The first stop on our tour is a place of real cultural and spiritual importance, so let’s keep things respectful when we get there-dress appropriately and be mindful of your surroundings for that one. Otherwise, smash-proof your sunglasses, stay hydrated, and keep an eye out for the ever-elusive New York pigeon-they’re tougher than they look.
If you haven’t already, make your way over to the first stop-the African Burial Ground National Monument-to get started. I’ll see you there and, fair warning, I may just make you laugh out loud in public!
