You’re about to walk through Downtown Bakersfield-taste the sunshine, hear the distant echo of a freight train, and maybe catch a whiff of barbecue drifting down 21st Street... or is that just wishful thinking?
This tour will take you from the splash of the McMurtrey Aquatic Center to the solemn dignity of the Hall of Records, and over to the Beale Memorial Clock Tower, which, if you ask, might spill a secret or two-for a minute of your time, of course.
As we travel, I’ll start talking as you arrive at each landmark. If I get shy and don’t start right away, you can always nudge me along by pressing play. And if Bakersfield’s grid confuses you, just peek at the map in the app-no shame, we’ve all zigged when we meant to zag.
A quick heads-up: we'll pass by the historic First Baptist Church, so you might want to dress respectfully for that stop. Sensible shoes are also your friend-Bakersfield tends to reward those who walk, but let's play it safe: mind any traffic, and watch those sidewalks.
If anything piques your curiosity, type your question below-I’m always game for a tangent.
Now, if you’re not already outside the McMurtrey Aquatic Center, that’s where our adventure begins. Head over, and let’s see what stories Downtown Bakersfield is ready to give up today. Off we go!
