On today’s adventure, we’ll stand in the shadow of St Giles’ Cathedral, peek down closes where traders and troublemakers rubbed shoulders, and end up somewhere a little more reflective at the Quaker Meeting House. That’s right-Edinburgh’s Old Town isn’t just about dark tales and hearty taverns, but quiet moments, too.
Here’s how things work: as you approach each stop, I’ll pop up and start chatting away. If your phone is feeling shy and doesn’t start the audio automatically, just give it a tap to play. Feeling lost? Just open the map on the app-no magical compass required. Anytime you wonder, “Hey Andy, what’s that thing over there?”-ask me in the chat below and I’ll do my best to answer.
We do stop at some historic places like places of worship. Out of respect, keep your attire respectful-nothing too wild or beachy. You’ll fit right in with the locals (unless you already have a time-traveling kilt, in which case, I want one).
A couple quick notes before we set off: Old Town’s streets are full of character-that means cobblestones, steep closes, and odd little steps. Watch your footing, and keep an eye out for cyclists, taxis, and the occasional determined bagpiper. If it starts to drizzle (this is Scotland, after all), just think of it as atmospheric special effects.
If you haven’t already, make your way to our first stop-John Dowie’s Tavern. Don’t worry, I’ll be right here, ready to pour you a pint of tales as soon as you arrive.
Ready to lose yourself in Edinburgh’s charms? Let’s take a stroll through time-and remember, the only thing you need to pack is your curiosity! See you at our first stop!
