And here we are... at the Beach Leisure Centre... with the North Sea doing its best impression of a cold, honest neighbor.
When we started back at Castlegate, Aberdeen felt like stone and streets... a place you pass through. Then we met the Mercat Cross, and suddenly the city had a voice... one that’s been making deals, keeping promises, and occasionally breaking them for a very long time.
We walked past St Andrew’s Cathedral and St Peter’s Church... and if you listened closely, you could almost hear the quiet work of people who showed up, week after week, to keep faith with each other. Not perfect people... just steady ones.
Then we climbed into the practical side of Aberdeen... Castlehill Barracks, the Health and Care Village, the Science Centre, the City Hospital. Big buildings, serious jobs... the kind of places that don’t ask for applause, but absolutely deserve it.
And after all that... we ended up back where the city lets its hair down a little. The Beach Ballroom, the Linx Ice Arena... places built for music, for movement, for laughter that spills out into the night. Because even granite cities need to dance... and yes, they do it with very good posture.
If you’re feeling that small tug in your chest right now... that’s the tour doing its job. Not the facts... not the dates... but the simple truth that you’ve been walking through other people’s lives. Traders and sailors. Soldiers and nurses. Kids on a school trip. Couples heading to a dance. Someone taking a deep breath before stepping into a hospital door... someone taking a deep breath after stepping out.
Aberdeen isn’t just “the Granite City.” It’s a city that holds its shape in hard weather... and still makes room for warmth. It’s tough... but it’s not cold. Not really.
So take a moment... look around... and let the sea air put a clean ending on the day. You did the walking. I just did the talking.
And honestly... that feels like the fairer deal.
Thanks for spending this time with me. When you’re ready... go do what Aberdeen has always done best... keep going.
