Now, close your eyes for a second-don’t worry, I’ll still be here! Visualize a chilly winter turning into a fresh new year. It’s the birth of Budapest Street, right at the turn of 1986 and 1987. In those days, Košice was growing fast, stretching outwards like a city that had one too many espressos. They needed new streets, new places for families, and voila! Budapest Street stepped onto the stage.
But why Budapest? Well, naming this street after Hungary’s dazzling capital was no accident. It’s a nod to the close ties between these neighbors, a friendly handshake across borders that you can walk on every day.
And if you really listen, maybe you’ll hear the echoes of that first bustling morning-a mix of hammers, laughter, and the hopeful chatter of new residents. So as you stroll, remember-you’re walking on more than pavement, you’re treading right down the middle of history and friendship!
