The landmarks in every guidebook — and the tours that tell you what guidebooks don't.
Faenza gave a word to every language that has pottery in it. The tin-glazed earthenware produced here in the Renaissance was exported across Europe so insistently that it became known simply as faience in French, fajansy in Polish, fayans in Turkish. The International Museum of Ceramics, founded in 1908, holds a collection that makes you understand why: the delicacy of the local glaze work, the particular way that Faenza's kilns handled cobalt blue and warm umber, was genuinely unlike anything produced elsewhere. In 2025 Faenza received UNESCO Creative City designation for crafts and folk art, which is a formal way of acknowledging something the town has known about itself for six hundred years.
The city center has a neoclassical character inherited from the 18th and 19th centuries, when the original medieval fabric was substantially remodelled.
The Piazza del Popolo, with its twin clock towers and open loggia, is one of the more harmonious public spaces in Emilia-Romagna. Every June the Palio del Niballo brings medieval jousting back to the streets, with the town's four districts competing in a tournament that has been running since the 1200s. Faenza lies between Bologna and Rimini in the flatlands south of the Po, and the Faentine Apennines begin almost immediately south of the city, rising quickly into the kind of landscape that makes the valley air below feel like a gift.

This tour was such a great way to see the city. The stories were interesting without feeling too scripted, and I loved being able to explore at my own pace.
This was a solid way to get to know Brighton without feeling like a tourist. The narration had depth and context, but didn't overdo it.
Started this tour with a croissant in one hand and zero expectations. The app just vibes with you, no pressure, just you, your headphones, and some cool stories.
