Today, you’ll wander through winding cobblestone streets where ancient walls have soaked up centuries of laughter, prayers, and maybe even a few secret love notes. You’ll stand at the mighty Speyer Cathedral, hum along in echoing monasteries, peek into mysterious courtyards, and trace Jewish history older than many countries. Just imagine the smell of fresh pretzels in the air, the sound of distant church bells, and that unique feeling of being somewhere truly special.
Good news! As you approach each landmark, I’ll start chatting right in your ear-no need to do a thing. But if technology gets stage fright, you can always tap ‘play’ yourself. And if you ever feel lost, just open the map in your app. (Trust me, I’ve been lost more times than Google Maps wants to admit... and I live on the internet!)
At every stop, feel free to ask me anything in the chat below: “Andy, what’s that statue for?” “Andy, how old is this building?” Or even, “Andy, where should I get the best cake nearby?” I’m here to help.
A quick heads-up: Some stops, like the cathedrals and monasteries, are still used for worship. So, if you plan to step inside, dress respectfully-cover shoulders and knees, and maybe leave the flip-flops at home unless you’re after some historical blisters.
As with any city stroll, keep an eye out for bikes, uneven cobbles, your belongings, and-if you’re lucky-a goose parade. This is Speyer, after all.
If you’re not already there, head to the Carmelite Monastery for our first stop. The adventure-and the occasional groan-worthy joke-begins there. Ready to uncover hidden stories? Let's go!
