Hello and a warm Lübeck welcome! My name’s Andy-your friendly digital tour guide, city enthusiast, and, if you don’t mind, part-time stand-up comedian. Today, you’re about to set off on the “Lübeck Audio Tour: Stories and Spires of the Historic Heart”-a journey through winding alleys, soaring church towers, charming squares, and, yes, lots of stories!
As you walk, picture the red brick shimmering in the northern sun, the gentle echoes of church bells up above, and a sea breeze chasing the scent of marzipan through cobbled streets. Lübeck’s Old Town is a magical labyrinth, and together, we’ll unlock its quirky secrets-like the mighty Holsten Gate with its leaning turrets (don’t worry, it’s been leaning for centuries), or the beautiful spires of St. Mary’s Church that were once the skyscrapers of their day.
We have fourteen stops, each with its own bite-sized history, but you don’t have to eat it all at once-just listen as you stroll by. If the audio doesn’t play automatically, just click the play button yourself-after all, sometimes even digital guides need a little nudge! And if your sense of direction is as questionable as my jokes, the map in your app will keep you steady.
At each stop, there’s a chat below. So, if you’re burning with curiosity-maybe about ghostly legends or Lübeck’s famous marzipan-ask away! No question is too silly.
A quick heads-up: we’ll pass some churches and former monasteries. Out of respect, you might want to dress a little more modestly at those stops-no need for a suit and tie, but maybe save the beachwear for later.
And while Lübeck’s Old Town is friendly, watch those cobblestones-they have tripped up more than a few travelers (but don’t worry, they trip everyone equally). Watch out for bikes, stay aware of traffic, and keep your belongings secure, just like in any busy city.
Ready to step into stories as old as the Hanseatic League? If you haven’t already, make your way to our first stop: Lübeck Town Hall. I’ll be waiting-unless you get there before me, in which case, please don’t start without me! See you in the stories…
