Today, we’ll walk from the proud stone walls of military history at the Cartier Square Drill Hall to the calm waters of the Rideau Canal. That’s right-15 stops packed with hidden stories, striking architecture, and (hopefully) the sort of facts that make you say, “Wait, really?” Plus, a few corny jokes-because we all need a little extra sunshine, even when Ottawa skies are cloudy.
As we stroll, let your eyes wander over Gothic towers, modern steel, and lush parks. Maybe you'll catch the scent of coffee drifting from nearby cafés, or hear the sound of bells chiming from a distant church. Don’t worry about getting lost-just follow the map in the app if you need it, and listen for my voice as you approach each landmark. If my audio doesn’t start automatically, give that ‘play’ button a tap!
Feel free to ask me anything about each spot using the chat section below-I promise I don’t bite, and my memory’s better than most pigeons’. Speaking of birds, the only thing you might need to dodge here is the occasional flock!
A quick heads-up: We’ll be passing a couple of churches-St. Andrew’s Presbyterian and Christ Church Cathedral-so if you want to step inside, it’s a good idea to dress respectfully. And while Centretown is a friendly place, keep your belongings close, be careful at crosswalks, and watch those sidewalks-Ottawa squirrels are notorious jaywalkers.
If you haven’t already, make your way to the Cartier Square Drill Hall, just around the corner, for our first story. Lace up your comfiest shoes, bring your curiosity, and let’s make some memories. Ready? Let’s step into Ottawa’s living history!
