As you walk the city’s streets-sometimes busy, sometimes quiet-imagine the echoes of important meetings, celebrations, and decisions that shaped a nation. Perhaps you feel the breeze from the Rideau Canal or notice the stonework of majestic buildings. Today, you are following footsteps that stretch over 150 years.
This tour will reveal grand sites like the Château Laurier, as well as thoughtful details in tributes such as the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument. At every stop, I’ll begin speaking when you get close; if this does not happen automatically, you can press play to hear about the landmark.
If at any point you feel disoriented, please use the map on the app-it’s your compass. And remember: if a question arises or you want to know more about what you see, simply type in the chat section below. I am always here to help and deepen your experience.
You do not need special attire on this tour, since none of our stops require religious or sensitive dress, but I do suggest sturdy shoes; Ottawa’s sidewalks can be uneven. Watch for cyclists and road crossings, especially near busy spots like the ByWard Market or Confederation Park. If the weather turns, have a raincoat or umbrella ready, just in case.
If you have not yet reached the first stop, please make your way to the National Arts Centre. There, your journey through Ottawa’s stories will begin in earnest.
Enjoy your walk through history. I’m ready when you are.
