Yildirim takes its name from Bayezid I, the Ottoman sultan who earned the nickname 'Yildirim,' meaning thunderbolt in Turkish, for the speed of his campaigns. The district he left behind in Bursa is anchored by the Yildirim Kulliyesi, a 14th-century complex that includes a mosque, theological school, hospice, and public bath built in the distinctive early Ottoman style that emerged before the empire reached its full architectural flowering in Istanbul.
The entire area forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site designated as 'Bursa and Cumalikizik: the Birth of the Ottoman Empire,' recognizing this corner of western Turkey as the place where an empire found its architectural language.
The Yildirim Bayezid Mosque, completed around 1395, is smaller and more intimate than the grand imperial mosques that came later, and its human scale makes it unusually accessible.

This tour was such a great way to see the city. The stories were interesting without feeling too scripted, and I loved being able to explore at my own pace.
This was a solid way to get to know Brighton without feeling like a tourist. The narration had depth and context, but didn't overdo it.
Started this tour with a croissant in one hand and zero expectations. The app just vibes with you, no pressure, just you, your headphones, and some cool stories.
